Last night Jon and I got a date night. He was able to leave the hospital at about 6 and he didn't have to bring any work home. It was a wonderful surprise. There weren't any traumas yesterday so that's why he was free and clear. On Thursday they had two bicycles vs. parked car incidents that really made him get home late along with an ATV accident or two. He's on call for 24 hours starting at 5:30 this morning so it was good he got plenty of sleep last night. Anyway, we went to Sam's Pizza in Iowa City and I got a calzone. Yum! If anyone is ever in the area and haven't tried Sam's, then you're missing out. I think the only family member we've brought there is Emily and that was a few years ago. They have a new location and it's beautiful. It kind of reminds me of the pubs in London - not that I went to any.... We also got a chance to watch "Life" which we had on the DVR. I think I'll like that show.
I have a few things to get done around the house before I head to the shower at Shirley's. I'm looking forward to the baby celebration. So is baby girl. She's been dancing around this morning and last night. I felt a kick awfully close to my ribs so I might be in trouble in the next few weeks.

28 Weeks
I'm pretty hormonal today so I'll keep this short. I haven't eaten a meal with another human since Sunday night so I'm a little nuts. Jon is finally home and hard at work. Hopefully he'll be in bed before midnight since he's getting up at 4:30. So far this month has been the worst for his work load. If only people would stop getting hurt things would be so much easier.
Here's what Jon looks like when he's home. He hasn't had time to cut his hair for a while. I think that's the only benefit to him being so busy. If it gets much longer he won't be able to control the curl. Oh, and if you want to see what tired looks like, double click on Jon's picture and look at his eyes. Poor guy!
Here are some pictures of me. I looked large and in charge while playing Guitar Hero last weekend. The other pictures are the obligatory belly pictures for 28 weeks.

I'm excited for my second shower this weekend. This one is just for family and a few eastern Iowa friends and is mostly Jon's side. It's at his aunt's house which is only about half an hour away. Yay for not having to drive a long ways. My last shower is on the 14th. It's for friends and close family. Many people live far away so I guess I'll find out how many people are able to attend. I'm just pumped to have a baby on the way and something to celebrate. I really am pretty lucky when it comes down to it.

6.5 Hours and Counting
I'm about to go on a murderous rampage. For the last 6.5 hours I've had to listen to our neighbor's dog barking. It's some sort of terrier and has a really high pitched, pitiful bark. It's never done this before so I almost wonder if something is wrong. I'm a dog lover, but I'm really not feeling it at the moment. It's so annoying! I'll give it a couple more hours and then I'm going over there to see if someone died (or would like to).
Jon and I both have colds. I started to feel it coming on Sunday afternoon and it's not improving. I hate not being able to breathe through my nose. So far I've gone without any medicine. I'm a little bit of a freak about what I put in my body these days.
Jon's first day on trauma was very long. He got home at about 10:30 or so last night. I brought him supper and stayed for a few minutes at about 7, but other than that, I didn't see him. I hope it was just bad because it was the first day on the rotation for everyone. We'll see. He did get to feel baby girl moving when he came to bed last night. She kicked the heck out of his hand and it made him happy.
We had a good time in FD last weekend. I enjoyed seeing family. My niece Macy was pretty funny. We were talking about the baby and how big she is at this point and Macy said, "If the baby is so little, then why is your belly so big?" You just have to laugh.

3rd Trimester!
Here are my belly pictures from last night. The theme for this trimester is Christmas so I'll be rotating between green and red. That way I'll have a festive slide show. Also, I'll include front views since I'm not wearing my scandalous swimsuit anymore and my belly is big from the front now.

There isn't a whole lot going on around here. I haven't been called in to substitute yet so I might have to email some of my teacher friends so they know I'm available and can request me. That would probably get me some days here and there.
It's Jon's golden birthday today. I bought mini cakes from Yummy's and we're having company tonight once Jon gets out of work. Hopefully he's able to make his own birthday dinner. Last night he had to mow in the dark because he got stuck with rounds after a meeting. Wednesday night he got home late because as he was about to leave he passed a room where a patient was coding. He delivered chest compressions and other doctors worked on the patient, but unfortunately the patient passed away from a heart attack. That wasn't a fun way to end the day and was a new experience for Jon.
Is anyone else overjoyed that the fall shows are back? I have some shows that I didn't get to see last night that are waiting for me on the DVR. I watched CSI and The Office last night. Baby girl is going to be used to my laugh if The Office continues to crack me up. CSI is one of the only serious shows that isn't getting old to me at all. It looks beautiful on our big TV also. We watched Life on Wednesday and I think I'm going to really like it. The main actor was in Band of Brothers and Dreamcatcher. He reminds me of our friend James Haase because he's charming, but a little bit of a jerk at the same time. I like that mixture because it keeps you guessing.
We're looking forward to visiting family this weekend. It's been way too long since we got out of town!

Gulp!
I just talked to my old boss and put my name in as a possible substitute teacher for the next couple of months. I don't know how often they'll need me as I'm 13th on the call list (unless it's in the math area where I'll be first call), but at least there is a possibility of having something to do and making a little cash. It's great not having to jump through any hoops to get a job. I already know the people I'd work with and most of the students so I'd have a lot less anxiety than if I substituted at a new school. Hopefully they'll need me here and there. I also found out that 75% of my students earned college credit for the AP Calculus exam last year. That's pretty darn good.
In other news, I'm changing my cell phone plan. I thought I did a lot better this month with my calls, but it was even worse than last month. I'm not sure how that happened because I barely talked to either of my sisters. :( We're going to double our minutes and I'm going to try to sweet talk them into retroactivating the new plan since we've been such loyal customers for almost 10 years. I'm sure that I'll continue to have a higher need for minutes as I'm home alone later in pregnancy and once I'm home with a newborn and family living so far away.
I talked to the upholstery guy yesterday and picked out fabric for the rocking chair. Of course I went straight to the $40 sq.yd. fabric instead of the cheaper kinds. This is going to end up being a pricey project, but it's going to be so neat to have in the family. The fabric is a green kind of basket weave look and will look very nice once the chair is stained a dark brown. The nursery is already so sweet with the furniture that Claudia so graciously kept for me to use. I love being surrounded by family, even if it is just family furniture.
Jon's 28th and Hailey's 9th birthday is on Friday. We're going to visit the family in FD this weekend from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. It's been a long time since I've seen my sisters and their families. Friday we're meeting our friends Clint and Callie that we haven't seen for about a year. Also, Friday is Jon's last day of oncology surgery. It hasn't been too bad of a month despite him working some late nights. At least he hasn't been on call! Thursday is the beginning of the 3rd trimester. :)

Lopsided
About 10 minutes before this picture was taken my belly was noticeably lopsided. Jon noticed it from across the room.
This is the last picture taken during the second trimester at 26 weeks and 4 days.

I'm so Proud!
I finally figured out how to share my slideshows on the blog. Woohoo! At least I hope they showed up in the last post. Since I've figured it out, here are my belly picture progressions for your enjoyment. If you'd like to know which week each picture is from, then click on the filmstrip and then scroll over the pictures and it will give you that information.
