Go Cyclones!

I can't believe we won. Saturday was a fun time. The weather was beautiful and the game was exciting. Who'd have thought we'd win by scoring 5 field goals? I guess I underestimated our boys. Go Cyclones! The shower was fun even though everyone was very tired. We got home around 4 pm and started hauling bricks down to the backyard for the patio project and Jon mowed. We've been taking it easy since. I'm tired so hopefully I'll be able to sleep well tonight.

Today's Appointment

Jon was able to meet me at my appointment today. I was very pleased that he finally got to hear the baby via the doppler. Baby girl's heartrate was 150 today and all was well...not a whole lot to talk about with regular checkups. I go back in four weeks and will do the glucose test for gestational diabetes. That should be interesting. When I got home from the appointment she decided to put on a show for me. She was moving the left and right part of my belly kind of like the ocean. It was a little freaky, but I loved it. There are only two weeks left and I'll be in the 3rd trimester!

I've had fun this week shopping for shower supplies for the Poppe's baby shower on Sunday. We have some games planned that should be entertaining.

Next week the parents are coming to do the patio since they were rained out in August. Right now the weather is forecast to be sunny and in the mid-70's so I think it'll work out better this way.

25 Weeks Belly Picture

Here I am, bad hair and all. Wow...I look tired, but check out that belly!

It's Fall!

I have a new favorite season now that I'm not teaching anymore. I used to associate fall with the most stressful time of the year, but now it's great. I love waking up and having to burrow under the covers because it's a little cold in the room, watching the fall shows premiere (yay, no more reruns and strange summer only shows), enjoying walks with the dog without sweating, going to football games and seeing friends...I could keep going.

Congratulations to all Panthers fans! You have a great team this year and they played well yesterday. I bet you'll have a great season as usual. I wish I could say the same thing about the Cyclones, but I had a bad feeling it would turn out the way it did yesterday. It's a bad combination when you have a well-established talented team playing well vs. a team with a new coach that can't seem to keep a hold of the ball. It was painful to watch! Oh well, it isn't anything new. If we're going to be beat by a smaller school, I'd rather it be a talented school like UNI. If they had an engineering program, then I probably would have ended up going there along with the rest of my family.

As for next weekend, I wish they'd just run the clock like they do for high school football when the points are spread so far. I really wish I could drink some beer next weekend for a little pain relief. Aren't I optimistic? I'm not looking forward to the Hawkeye fans either. Many of the visiting teams have gracious fans overall (of course there are some idiots), but the Hawkeye game gets ugly on both sides. Many of their fans are just fine, but the ones that are obnoxious are extremely obnoxious...kind of like some of my friends that we sit near. LOL! I wouldn't miss the game though because we've been surprised before. However, I'm predicting a winless season for the Cyclones this year.

It was fun having a posse of pregnant women at the tailgating bus. What a switch! We had little Gavin running around and getting passed around and smooched along with four pregnant women. The first in line is Kristin and she's due Oct. 5th. I think she's carrying a boy because she seems to have only grown in the belly area. Jillian is due Nov. 27th and she's obviously pregnant now. The last time I saw her she had a teeny, tiny bump. It's fun having someone that's due only a month away from me and expecting a girl also. It gives me an idea of what I'll be looking like in about a month. Then there's me, of course. :) Pulling up the rear is Amanda who is due April 18th. It'll be fantastic when she's out of the first trimester and stops being so nauseous! I'm expecting another pregnancy announcement or two during this football season. Last year I had mixed emotions when I saw pregnant women, but now I have a sense of kinship. I like feeling "normal."

Hopefully Jon will get home soon. He's rounding on his patients this morning and then he'll be free the rest of the day. I've enjoyed seeing him at night and not having to hear that darn pager.

Oh, and the nursery painting went well on Friday. Jon's parents are expert painters and they even have a special ladder (which most of my side of the family has borrowed at some time or another). I think I'm just going to do the stripes on a couple of walls and call it good. The majority of the room is going to remain "optimistic yellow" and it's very cheery. I can't wait to hang pictures and window treatments. However, then the nursery will be mostly complete and I'll have to find another project.

So Sad

It's amazing how close I've gotten to some of the other moms and moms-to-be on my message board. I highly recommend online support groups to anyone. However, the downside to caring so much for people is that you mourn their losses and can't offer them comfort in person. It really makes me feel useless at times.

For those of you that are sensitive to miscarriage and infant loss, just stop reading here.

Yesterday I found out that one of my friends lost her baby at 25 weeks. She went in for a normal appointment and the heartbeat couldn't be found. It was determined that the baby had died and she went in for a c-section. Apparently she's recovering well physically, but I worry about how she's doing emotionally. Last October she had her first child. Unfortunately he passed away after a couple of days due to a condition called Vasa Praevia (which if the doctors had known about they would have had a good shot at saving Zane). Obviously she mourned, but decided to conceive again and was blessed with a pregnancy in April. She is one of the kindest, funniest, most supportive women I've "met" even with her tragedy of last year. She's reached out to others to teach them about Zane's condition to help other moms. It's just so hard to believe that she has to go through such a terrible loss again. No one deserves it, but especially not someone as wonderful as her. For anyone that prays, please pray for Sarah, her husband Scott, and her two babies in heaven, Zane and Ada during this difficult time.

24 Weeks

If you look closely you can see The Buddy in the lower right hand corner of the picture. Too funny! I'm feeling much bigger this week although I don't know how much bigger I look. I've now gained a grand total of about 18 pounds and can no longer wear my wedding ring. There are only a few weeks left to the second trimester so then I'll have to figure out a new belly picture outfit. Considering I'm already growing out of some maternity t-shirts (in length because my torso is so long) I'll need to choose wisely so I can wear it to the end.

Belly Dancing

I was laying around snuggling The Buddy and feeling baby girl kick when I discovered something cool. Not only did she kick at least 10 times within 5 minutes, but when I moved my hand out of the way I saw my belly moving!!! She's getting strong and her aim towards my bladder is improving (causing me to run to the bathroom occasionally). I'm going to need to figure out how to use our new camcorder so I can try to get a recording of it - the kicking, not me running to the bathroom. She's very naughty when it comes to performing though. She'll be kicking up a storm and then Jon will put his hand on my belly and she lays still. Naughty girl! This is such a wonderful time of pregnancy. I'm not too big yet, I can still bend at the waist to pick things up, my appetite is great, baby is moving so I don't worry so much, and I'm sleeping a little better. I also had a stranger ask me when I was due so obviously I'm showing now.

I found out a few days ago that one of my friends that had some difficulty getting pregnant is about 8 weeks pregnant. Woohoo and congrats again if you're reading this!

Jon successfully completed his pediatric surgery rotation and then a 24 hour trauma on call day on Saturday. He basically went two days without sleep, pronounced someone dead (not anyone that he'd worked on), and had to deal with 7 or 8 motorcyclists that got in accidents under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Then he slept all day Sunday and got the afternoon off yesterday. Today is his first official day on oncology surgery and he has lots of thyroid appointments today. I think he's going to miss the little kids.

Jon's parents are coming to paint the nursery on Friday. We decided on a pale yellow for the walls, then a couple of the walls with be pale yellow with a brighter yellow stripe. I might paint some sort of circle border too. I'm still a little nervous that our girl isn't a girl so other than a bunch of clothes (I have a shopping for girl clothes problem) we aren't too messed up if we have a boy.

We're excited that we'll be able to go to the Cyclone game on Saturday. I hope it isn't ugly since we're playing a much smaller school....and for those of you that don't follow Cyclone athletics I mean ugly for us, not the smaller school. Hopefully we won't be shaking our heads in disgust. I mean - GO CYCLONES!
